Basic Circuits

You'll find the basics of any circuit design here, from board designs to basic circuits that don't fit into the other categories. The links under the images are in ExpressPCB format.

  • Circuit Boards -- Board layouts for commonly available prototype boards. If you have a proto board in ExpressPCB format that you'd like to submit, place it on the forums or email it to us.
  • Interfaces -- Here are interface circuits for use in projects. Hook your project to standard electronics.
  • Fun Circuits -- Ever want a really simple, really fun circuit? Well, they reside here. Simple audio amplifiers, lights, etc.
  • School -- Learn some fundamentals of electricity, with references to circuits that demonstrate certain properties.

  • Thu, 08 Apr 2010 -- Transistor Logic, Part 2
It’s assumed that anyone taking any interest in this blog or topic will have a basic understanding of logic.  However, I am going to put forth the convention I will be using to avoid any confusion. AND     –     & OR        -     + NOT     – [...]
  • Tue, 06 Apr 2010 -- Transistor Logic
There are a few things in the world which are being lost on new hobbyists, one being the importance of knowing why an IC does what it does.  I am going to risk sounding rude and arrogant, but any fool can strap a couple of resistors to an IC and make an audio amplifier of [...]
  • Sun, 13 Dec 2009 -- LM386 Audio Amplifier
Simple Audio Amplifier using 6 to 10 components, depending on how serious you are or how much space you have. The chip is readily available and requires a minimum of external components.
  • Sun, 10 May 2009 -- DexOS Home Automation Project
DexOS has made a significant leap with an application to showcase it’s full TCP/IP stack implementation and embedded capabilities:  Meet HomeServ, an application that controls some nifty home-brew hardware that turns lights on or off from anywhere in the world.  Rest assured, there is a password involved, and no, it won’t lock your doors or [...]
  • Wed, 22 Apr 2009 -- Absence
Aplogies for the long quiet time.  A move was in order, and took longer than expected.  Now that most everything is back to normal, the fun will begin again.  Team DexOS is cooking up some good stuff, including home automation and, with my help, RSS tools.  Keep tabs in the DexOS Forums:  http://dex.7.forumer.com .  With [...]
  • Wed, 01 Apr 2009 -- RS-232 Circuit
Posted in Basic Circuits is a very basic RS-232 driver circuit to use  in interfacing your circuits to a PC via serial port.  Notice I used the MAX233 integrated circuit, to avoid a mass of capacitors and soldering for the novice.  The MAX232 is nearly identical, except for the use of external capacitors.  It is [...]
